Hom Yoga Singapore presents this 30-hour Yin Yoga intensive with Leigh Khoo (E-RYT-200) and Floydd Wood (E-RYT 200). Deeply passionate about the practice of Yin Yoga, both teachers have trained with acclaimed Yin Yoga teacher trainer Jo Phee, and are deeply immersed in Yin Yoga philosophy, theory and practice. Spread over two weekends, this intensive is an ideal immersion for both students and teachers of yoga who are interested in learning about Yin Yoga and incorporating its philosophy into their practice and teaching.
ABOUT LEIGH KHOO
Yoga found Leigh 10 years ago, in a tiny Keong Saik Road shophouse studio. As much as she enjoyed working up a good sweat, it was the meditation practice after the asana sessions that really drew her in. Her teacher Sunil Dahiya used to say to her: “Where are you in your body? Meditate on that.” That set the tone for Leigh’s yoga journey. While she naturally inclines towards strong vinyasa sequences, she also has an insatiable appetite to learn about the deeper philosophies of yoga and meditation, which she believes are the key to unlocking the wisdom of our consciousness.
Leigh lives life guided by her heart and gut, and that was what gave her the intuitive faith to leave a full-time job in magazine publishing to pursue her yoga studies in 2013 with Bali-based Anusara teacher Emily Kuser. She also later trained with Power Yoga founder Bryan Kest, and renowned Yin Yoga teacher Jo Phee. Interestingly, all her teachers are advocates of meditation.
Now in her fourth year of teaching, Leigh has learned to understand —and more importantly — respect anatomical differences, and she encourages her students to tune in to their inner alignment — asanas that look right on the outside may not necessarily feel so within. Her classes are dynamic, flowing and sweaty, but also mindful and contemplative, especially when she is teaching yin yoga and meditation (her favourite!). Along with her teachers, she is also greatly inspired by the written word, which she often shares in the form of quotes, stories and poetry in class.
Off the mat, Leigh is the dining editor at food app start-up Burpple, a hungry reader and a most enthusiastic traveller. She tries to practise yoga and compassion everywhere, especially when someone cuts her queue or her husband forgets to do the dishes.
ABOUT FLOYDD WOOD
Floydd is South African born, and was introduced to yoga in 2004 while living in Shanghai. He discovered it to be a natural fit, for both mind and body. Curious by nature, he experimented for years with yoga and body movement practices, including Bikram, Iyengar, partner yoga, ballet, pole, contemporary dance — and even circus arts! While working in the fast-paced world of commercial design and brand strategy, yoga grew to be the cornerstone of his personal approach to health and wellness.
His affection for the spiritual, emotional and physical benefits drove him to complete both Yin 100hr and Vinyasa Flow 200hr teacher training in 2015, and he has been teaching since.
Floydd believes in a strong, educational and enjoyable practice that opens and energises the body, while inspiring and calming the mind. He has a special affection for yin yoga - for its tranquil process, and effective results
He hopes to both educate and inspire students to improve their own practice while appreciating and respecting their bodies. He teaches yoga the way he practises it — a simple, clean, energetically opening practice, inspired by dance. He hopes to both educate and inspire students to improve their own experience through patience and mindfulness, while appreciating, respecting and celebrating their bodies.
WHAT IS YIN YOGA
Yin Yoga is a practice of long-held poses designed to penetrate deep into the fascia and connective tissues of the body, release energy stagnation and stimulating chi flow. It is a quiet, meditative practice that beautifully complements more dynamic yoga styles. In this training, students will gain insight into Yin Yoga energetics and philosophy, and leave equipped to lead Yin Yoga sequences.
This training is open to all level of practitioners.
200-hour teachers can clock these hours as Continuing Education credits with Yoga Alliance, or count them towards a RYS-500 qualification. All additional 300 hours of training must be completed with Hom Yoga to be accredited RYS-500.
