Why do you teach yoga?

I teach yoga because it has been so instrumental in my own life. I personally have experienced an organic transformation since I started practicing yoga. I believe so much in the process that I am compelled to share it with the world.

What kind of transformation did you have?

There was no pinnacle transformative moment for me. I just started to notice I was more comfortable in my own skin, and able to respond to others and myself differently. For example, one of the main shifts I found was in social situations. I would always be a little anxious and shy in social situations, and my usual way of dealing with this would be to have a few drinks. Through a consistent yoga practice, I have found the ability to acknowledge and embrace my anxiety, which has actually led to me feeling less anxious!

Who have been your teachers and what styles of yoga have you practiced?

I love this question because I think we all have people who have influenced us in different ways. Someone who I feel has particularly inspired me was a sports trainer, called Billy Ford. Billy was a pole-vaulter, and musician, and had trained for the Olympics with the Russians. His visualisations and training methodologies had, and still have an impact in me. He was not a yoga teacher per se, but he was teaching me yoga.

Duncan Peak, Baron Baptiste, and Simon Borg certainly influenced me early in my teaching, and now Eileen Hall and Richard Freeman have a massive influence in my teaching.

What style do you teach and what is your teaching methodology? 

I teach mostly classical Vinyasa, a combination between Ashtanga, Iyengar and classical Hatha.

I'm a sucker for traditional yoga, something with deep lineage. I have been down the contemporary yoga path and taken away a lot from my experience, but for me a traditional style works so much better in my body. Something deep within me, tells me to follow a real lineage and trust in the process. Developing this trust has truly allowed me to surrender to the process of yoga and meditation.

I have 4 steps that I teach; Asana, Pranayama, Meditation and Contemplation. Absolutely every thing I teach now has a component of these 4 teaching, it is my methodology and it works.

How is your 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training different to other trainings available?

My focus is on teaching you to be an intuitive teacher; to have the understanding on how to inspire, empower and transform your students and the student within you.

Anyone who has been to my class will know I teach from my heart. Logic has a part to play, but for me becoming an intuitive teacher has opened me up and completely transformed the way I approach my teaching. Developing and trusting your intuition when teaching is the most powerful tool any teacher could possess, and this is what I want to share with others seeking to become yoga teachers too.

Who is your training for?

It is for anyone who knows that they have a message to share from within their heart and a love for yoga.

Who is it not for?

This is a strange question. I would say you have to be willing to come apart, to allow a breakdown of your fear driven ego in order to let the teacher within you breakthrough.

If you are willing to show up with an open mind and allow this transformation process to break you down, then this training is for you. And if not then there are lots of other trainings available which have a different focus.
